What has your experience been like?

Kaheen: It is been a great experience for me. I have learned a lot from my teacher, and the way that we use their online teaching website, they support and encouraged me. And they give me an opportunity to focus on my own goals and achievements.

Candace: My experience has been rewarding! Seeing the progress my student has made and the accomplishments NALC has achieved in the community confirms what I do as a volunteer matters.

Why do you volunteer?

Candace: Being of service to my community is essential to my existence. As a public health professional, I know health literacy is a determining factor of health outcomes in communities across Tennessee. My hope is that teaching ELL students how to read will allow them the ability to advocate for themselves and their family in the healthcare system.
