ELL Match: Monique, Janiree and Snahider
Learn more about how English Language Learners, Janiree Noriega and Snahider Vega, and their tutor, Monique Killyon, found NALC and about their experience working together!
How did you find NALC?
Janiree and Snahider: A Google search for English classes in Tennessee. We contacted the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition, and they provided us with a list of English programs. We emailed NALC from the list and Lisa responded to our inquiry.
NALC is proud to partner with many other local nonprofits by regularly referring learners to other resources (and accepting references like the one from TIRRC). Did you know we currently have almost 300 potential learners on a waitlist? Most other nonprofits serving English Language Learners (like TIRRC) are facing a similar need. Supporting our needs by volunteering or making a donation can help change lives throughout the county!
What has your experience been like?
Janiree: I like everything; the program is good practice for immigrants. The people who we have worked with are nice and make learning English easy.
Snahider: I like how NALC works. They're dedicated and organized.
Monique: I’ve had a fantastic experience with NALC. I truly enjoy my students. It’s been wonderful getting to know them and seeing them progress over the past year. They have accomplished so much, and I’m honored to be a part of their journey.
Why do you volunteer?
Monique: Volunteering is a rewarding experience. I’m very passionate about helping others and seeing positive outcomes.
