In Our Words Newsletter

Historically, an annual publication of student work, In Our Words, showcases the voices of our learners and volunteers. Recently, a learner suggested that we create a more regular newsletter as a space for students to share their work, staff to share updates about the organization, and volunteers to share their stories, too. Items from these newsletters will then be compiled into our annual publication (with contributor permission).

Will you help us collect items to showcase in the newsletters? If you’re a tutor, let your learner know about the newsletter and, if they're interested, help them write and submit work. And/or if you have something you'd like to share, please submit or let us know!

Note: submission of work is not required or expected. We'd love to share our community's thoughts and experiences, but participation is not mandatory.

On our newly redesigned website, you'll find a form to submit work. We'll also post newsletters and the annual In Our Words publication when available.

All types of writing are welcome: poetry, essays, op-eds, memoir, fiction, anything you’d like to showcase! We also accept works of visual art, videos, and any other creative expressions you might want to share. Need an idea? Check out a list of prompts and examples here.

Submissions may be made semi-anonymously, but learners should give their first and last initial. If you wish for only your first initial to be used, simply note that in the submission.

If you have questions or want to work on a submission, please let a staff member know. We're here to help share our learners' and tutors' great work!
