In Our Words

Historically, an annual publication of student work, In Our Words showcases the voices of our learners and volunteers. Recently, a learner suggested that we create a more regular newsletter as a space for students to share their work, staff to share updates about the organization, and volunteers to share their stories, too. Items from these newsletters will then be compiled into our annual publication (with contributor permission).

Below you’ll find a form to submit work, previous newsletters, and our annual publication. Please contact us if you have any questions!

Submit Your Work

Are you an NALC student or volunteer? Do you have a piece of writing you’d like to share with our community? Use the submit button below for inclusion in our next community newsletter! You can also email submissions directly to info@nashvilleliteracy.org. All types of writing are welcome: poetry, essays, op-eds, memoir, fiction, anything you’d like to showcase!

We also accept works of visual art, videos, and any other creative expressions you might want to share.

NALC staff may reach out to you if we need to talk about changes to your work before we publish it in our newsletters or book.

Need an idea? Check out a list of prompts and examples here.

By submitting this form you agree to have your work published in an email newsletter that goes to our student, staff, and volunteer community and is made available online below. Your work may also be included in our annual publication, In Our Words, with additional permission requested.

Submissions may be made semi-anonymously. Please give your first and last initial, but if you wish for only your first initial to be used, note that in the submission.
