People We’ve Helped
This past year we served 1800 learners with 600 volunteer tutors.
Each year the Nashville Adult Literacy Council (NALC) is able to help hundreds of individuals meet personal, academic, and career goals. These goals can include getting a GED or high school diploma, getting a job, helping children with school work, becoming a citizen, voting for the first time, or communicating with a neighbor or co-worker. We are proud of each and every one of our learners, and celebrate all of their accomplishments.
Erskine entered our program in 2002 through our partnership with Drug Court. With our help, he achieved his goals of finding employment and buying a house. Erskine has been drug-free for twelve years, and says he could not have achieved this without learning how to read.
My whole life has changed. If I hadn’t started learning, there’s no telling where I might be today. If I couldn’t read, I couldn’t stay clean. I’m just grateful for having a program like this. I never thought I was going to be blessed to learn how to read.
