Each year, hundreds of immigrants learn English at the Nashville Adult Literacy Council. While the majority of these learners are served in classes, some are taught by volunteers in in either the One-on-One Program or the Start Now Program.

English Classes

The NALC teaches English in Antioch, Madison, West Nashville, and East Nashville. Learners in classes receive two to four hours of instruction each week. Class registration is conducted periodically--contact the office for the next registration date.

English Tutoring

The NALC offers English tutoring at our West Nashville and Antioch offices, and at other Nashville locations. Volunteers teach in the One-on-One Program and the Start Now Program. Tutoring registration is conducted on an appointment basis as space for new learners is made available.Contact the office for the next registration date.

Conversation Clubs

Conversation Clubs are an extra opportunity for learners to practice speaking English outside of class or tutoring. In this relaxed setting, learners can discuss new cultural discoveries and expose themselves to new accents. These clubs meet in our West Nashville office and in Antioch. All learners and volunteers are welcome. Check our class/club schedule page for dates and times.
