Nashville Adult Literacy Council publishes article in Voices magazine …

VoicesArticleJust last week, the Spring 2015 edition of ProLiteracy’s magazine, Voices was delivered through the U.S. mail. As we thumbed through Volume 8 – Issue 1, we arrived at page 15 to find an article featuring…{drum roll}…the Nashville Adult Literacy Council!

In the latter part of 2014, we submitted a feature article, which was edited to adhere to the guidelines of Voices and titled “Learners’ Words Come From the Heart,” that presented an overview of a book called “In Our Words.”  We publish this book each year. In case you have yet to read “I-O-W,” you should know that it is composed of self-penned stories and ‘diary journal entries’ from our learners and tutors. We have been ‘printing and pressing’ these wonderful collections of writings since 1992.

On page 15, two excerpts from the 2014 edition encase a photograph of all the book covers we could find in our archives. “In Our Words” has gone through several name changes, starting with “Reading for Tomorrow.” But the impact of the book has always remained the same: “It takes courage for adult learners to share their heartfelt, personal tales. Their courage touches the hearts and minds of their readers.”
